Exclusive Team Jordan Interview With Q & DMiles
Team Jordan Issue 1 2001
Interview By: Josh Gibson
Team Jordan: Introduce Yourselves.
Quentin Richardson: Just call me Q from Chicago. 21 years old. I went to DePaul for two years then got picked 18th.
Darius Miles: I'm D-Miles from East Saint Louis High School. Picked top five from high school. I went third.
Team Jordan: What was like being at All-Star Weekend?
Q: It was fun. At one point [NJ Nets Swingman] Stevie Jackson and i were sitting next to each other, he tapped me and said, "Man, we are in this, we are in this league. We are playing in All-Star Weekend!" I was thinking the samem thing. We both started laughing.
Team Jordan: How often do you play video games?
D: Out of 24 hours, we play a few hours a day [laughs].
Q: If you weren't here right now, we would go and get something to eat, and then come back and play some video games.
Team Jordan: Are you happy with how they portrayed you in Playstation?
D: They don't make me fast enough. They don't make dunk enough. They made e real skinny, and didn't put a headband on me.
Team Jordan: As two of the young players in the NBA, do you get the respect you deserve?
Q: We can just tell by some of the player's demeanor and the way they play against us that they don't have enough respect. We don't have to come out talking noice. Everybody knows we're legit and we are not going to be run over like that.
Team Jordan: D-Miles, your mom moved out to LA with you. What is it like bringing her out of East Saint Louis?
D: It's a dream come true to be able to get my mom out of the 'hood'. Everybody wants to live where they can just leave their bikes outside, the front door open and not have to struggle. I' m going back to visit but you can't just walk around at night and not expect anything to happen. The block is hot!
Team Jordan: Q, does your father still drive a train in Chicago?
Q: Yes, but he'll probably quit in a couple of years. He really doesn't want to retire and he really doesn't want to move out of his house. We've been living in that house since my sister was a little girl. She's 28 now.
Team Jordan: What is the hardest thing about adjusting to the NBA?
D: The attention off the court, people look up to you and they think you are famous when you're just a regular person. It's going to be strange when I go back home and see all those people.
Q: I experience that on a certain level when I was in college. When I was at DePaul, the team was doing well. Jordan had just left the Bulls and we were in the paper every day, so when we walked into restaurants people knew who we were.
Team Jordan: What's it like playing for the Clippers right now?
Q: One of the biggest reasons why we are having such a good time is that everybody on our team is compatible, we all just sit around and crack jokes on each other.
D: It's hell.
Team Jordan: Hell?
D: Naw, its cool. I have people my age around me and i don't have to be alone. My team-mates are like brothers to me. We all hang and act silly.
Team Jordan: When did you get your first pair of Air Jordans?
D: Seventh grade. The patent leathers.
Q: When I was younger we couldn't afford Jordans. My father didn't believe in paying a hundred dollars for shoes.
